NORTHERN CYPRUS BROAD BAND, INTERNET
Broadband has recently been established in the TRNC. Many North Cyprus residents and business are installing the service, for an installation fee and monthly charge. As of yet there are no wired services on North Cyprus and dial up is slow and unreliable. Most local services in Northern Cyprus offer a wireless service that requires the installation of a dish on the roof of your property in North Cyprus. There are also some companies that offer dialup internt connections in Northern Cyprus. But in order to partake in such services you must have a landline, and speeds are considerably slower and less reliable.
TELEVISION AND RADIO
There are a number of local radio stations and TV channels in North Cyprus offering English programs, including international news etc… Depending where in Northern Cyprus you reside you may also be able to get stations from the south side of Cyprus. Digiturk, the Turkish equivalent of SKY TV, offers a large selection of news, films, BBC programs, sports etc. This service requires the installation of a dish on the roof of your house in North Cyprus. From there some coaxial cable is strung down to your flat and then connected to your decoder that Digiturk sells to you. Please note that your television must have a scart port for the connection from the decoder to the television is made by means of a scart cable (if not an adapter can be purchased).
There is no need for a TV license.
DVD rental shops are common throughout Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus and offer return or sale deals. These shops also sell other electronic products, such as VCD players and game systems. VCDs are cheaper then DVDs but their quality is also not as good as that of DVDs. All can be exchanged for a discount towards future purchases.
