SHOPPING IN THE TRNC
NORTHERN CYPRUS SHOPS
Many local supermarkets are open seven days a week from 8.00am to 10.00pm, offering a mixture of local brands and international goods. In Northern Cyprus as in the UK, there are large supermarkets offering a wide range of goods and smaller ‘corner’ stores for daily goods. Cigarettes, cigars, tobacco, local & international wines & local & international spirits are all reasonably priced and easily available in TRNC.
Chemists are open six days a week, one (or two depending on the area) remaining open at night & weekends. They stock most international products.
There is a large choice of ladies’ and gentlemen’s hairdressers, barbers and beauty salons around the North Cyprus Kyrenia area.
Furniture can be purchased either ready-made or from skilled craftsmen who can replicate furniture or make to order.
There is a wide and varied selection of quality fabrics in Northern Cyprus, and in addition to shops and boutiques for men’s and women’s clothing there is a selection of dressmakers and tailors.
UK newspapers and magazines can be found in the supermarkets. North Cyprus news and information can be found in the weekly Cyprus Today Newspaper. There are now quite a few weekly papers that are printed in English. But so far there is only on daily paper that is printed in English. There is also a daily paper that comes from Turkey. This paper is one day late as most papers that come from outside Northern Cyprus.
WEEKLY MARKETS
There is a market every Wednesday near the Kyrenia Police Station. This market sells mainly fruit, vegetables and clothes, however there is a selection of other items. Other cities in Northern Cyprus have their markets held on different days.
